"Page
Lambert is that rare writer who teaches not only through the quality
of her prose, but just as importantly, through her ability to kindle
(and ultimately, to render far more accessible), the inherent
creativity of her students. I highly recommend her." ~ Gary
Ferguson, teacher, speaker, and best-selling author of numerous
books, including Decade of the
Wolf, The Great Divide, and Hawks Rest.

delightful, but she's an award winning author and writing coach and
she really knows her stuff. If you're serious about getting
published, you must, I repeat, must talk with Page." ~ ZJ Czupor,
Principal/Owner, The InterPro Group.
A note from Page…
Based on the wonderful years I have spent as a member of Bearlodge
Writers, my first suggestion regarding coaching, editing, and critiquing
services, is to join a good, nurturing and serious writing group. By
serious, I don't mean exclusive, or even necessarily published. I mean
serious in the sense that the members read and appreciate good
literature, and they strive toward excellence in their own work. If you
find a group whose core mission is to inspire writers to write, to offer
advice that will polish each piece, then the help you receive, and
offer, will be immeasurable and invaluable. You will learn more by
critiquing the work of others, than you possibly could by staying
immersed only in your own writing. Narrative nonfiction writers learn
from novelists, novelists learn from poets, poets learn from short story
writers. And of course, READ READ READ. Read what is better than
what you aspire to write. Embrace with an open heart the work of others,
and you will find your work equally embraced. As they say on the river,
It's all good!
Yet there comes a time, when no matter how good the writing group to
which you belong, your project needs the objective eye of a professional
editor or consultant who is able to look at the work in its entirety,
whose perspective is not clouded from hearing or reading earlier drafts.
When you feel you've polished your work as much as you're able, when
your fellow writers have offered all the advice they can, perhaps it's
time to think about investing in professional advice. Although my own
writing and speaking schedule does not allow me as much time to work
with other writers as I would like, I do take on an occasional client.
"Any workshop or
retreat with Page is an amazing experience. She brings out the best
in you, and teaches you not only how-to, but can-do. I highly
recommend Page as a teacher." ~ Phyllis Dugan, past president of
Wyoming Writers.
Editorial and Consulting Fees
Fees for services may be calculated many ways, either by the page, by
the hour, or by the project. Shorter projects, such as query letters, or
novel synopses, fit best into an hourly rate, as does straight
copy-editing and proofing. For these types of services, and for e-mail
and phone consultations regarding services provided, I charge a flat
rate of $60.00 per hour, with a minimum charge of 15 minutes ($15.00)
for small changes. Poetry manuscripts fit best into this fee structure.
Critiques and evaluations of longer projects, such as book proposals,
novels, short story collections, or narrative works of nonfiction, fit
best into the "per project" rate. For these types of projects, there is
no charge for the initial consultation, then (based on the length of the
work) a critical read-through will run anywhere from $350 to $1500. The
evaluation will include extensive typed comments addressing the work's
thematic statement, overall structure, sense of place, characters and
characterization, points-of-view, dialogue, plot and story line, etc.
If you would like me to take your prose project (nonfiction or
fiction) from beginning to end, from rough draft to a manuscript ready
for submission to an agent or editor (includes an extensive critique,
copy editing, help with revisions, follow-up consultations - even advice
on marketing), the charge is a flat $6.50 per page (250 words per page).
If you think this option might work for you, I would suggest an initial
consultation first. Revisions desired after you have received feedback
from an agent or editor, or after we determine the manuscript is ready
for initial submission, would be billed at the hourly rate.
Generally, a retainer should be sent along with the manuscript in
order for me to begin working with you. For larger projects, the
retainer required is between $500 and $1,000. Smaller projects are
handled on a case-by-case basis. Payment of a retainer ensures that we
are both committed to the project. Once we have had an initial
consultation (at no charge) and decide to pursue a working relationship,
I am then able to schedule your project into my work schedule and give
it the priority it deserves. If at any time we decide not to continue
working with each other, any portion of the retainer remaining after the
final bill will be returned.
Thank you. I consider it an honor to work on a manuscript in which
you have devoted time, energy, and love.
Coaching and Career
Development
I am not a trained life coach, let me make that clear. Yet my experience
in the corporate world has allowed me to incorporate business savvy and
professionalism into the more artistic career of writing. Working for
the last ten years as a serious writer, and through working seriously
with writers and publishers, by presenting over 100 workshops throughout
the United States and Canada, and by attending or speaking at countless
seminars, workshops, and writing conferences, I have gleaned a good
working knowledge of the publishing industry. Should you desire coaching
in regards to your writing career, the hourly rate is $100 an hour for
the first 5 hours, then $50 an hour thereafter.
"I met Page at a workshop in NM and was immediately drawn to her
vivid, lyrical writing style, her generous sharing in her teaching,
and her warm spirit. Page is the perfect combination of talented
writer and sensitive, skilled teacher. I brought home new chapters
of my novel, valuable tips for my writing, and a promise to myself
to return, which I did, spending five days working one-on-one with
her in Santa Fe." ~ Heloise Jones, author of
Broken Road.
